Welcome to the Fifth Annual
South Delta Jazz Workshop
July 8 - 12th, 2008

Some scholarships are available for students 21 years of age and under.
Preference will be given to those who register for the workshop before May 31, 2008

    About the Delta Jazz Workshop:

  • a one week program designed to give musicians the opportunity to explore and deepen their knowledge of jazz improvisation and performance.
  • An opportunity that allows musicians to focus on becoming better jazz players and performers.
  • an exciting opportunity for music students to learn about jazz and improvisation from great musicians.
     
  • Open to young people and adults 12 years and older (Adults are welcome!!)
  • All instruments (including voice) are welcome!
  • Students will be placed in classes and an ensemble according to their ability and experience.

Students will spend most of their time playing music in small groups and learning jazz repertoire and improvisation. Classes in jazz history and theory will also be available. Daily concerts and master classes with great guest artists will inspire, excite, and motivate. Workshop faculty are professional musicians from the Vancouver region and abroad who love teaching and are experienced educators. The Workshop will be held at South Delta Secondary School n beautiful Tsawwassen, BC and is a program of the Delta Community Music School.


  Typical Daily Schedule of Activities

9:30 am Theory / Aural skills
10:30 am Improv Class / Ensemble rehearsal
11:30 am Lunch / listening
12 noon Faculty and Guest Artist Concert
1:30 pm Master Class with Guest Artist
3:00 pm. Ensemble Rehearsal
4:30 - 5 pm Finish


Workshop Fees

The Workshop fee is $300, including a non-refundable $50 registration deposit. For registration information email info@southdeltajazzfestival.com

Some scholarship and bursary support is available on both a needs and merit basis. All students under age 21 may be considered for assistance.

Accommodation and Transportation  

Students must arrange for their own transportation to and from the workshop. The 601 bus from Downtown Vancouver departs for Delta every 30 minutes from Burrard Station. A special South Delta Jazz Festival accommodation rate has been arranged at The Coast Tsawwassen Inn for out-of-town participants. Please refer to our website for more information, or call (800) 663-1144 to make your reservation. Billeting may be arranged for high school aged students.
